Many details within Hogarth’s prints can now be explained: the toppling buckets, the stabbed chicken, the screaming curtains. These are all Masonic clues to parts of the ritual, along with several key characters: the curtain hanger, the pointing jailer, the fondling pervert and the fighting doctor.
Even the pregnant singer, the masturbating King, and the horn blower all contain Masonic links.
William Hogarth – A Freemason’s Harlot also gives you many Masonic readings of some of the artist’s more obscure works. Over 300 illustrations provide the fascinating history of the United Grand Lodge of England in this, its 300th anniversary. It is a wonderful visual appreciation of the Freemasons through the eyes of William Hogarth.
